Research

Dr. Taunton’s research This past year has been in the area of overuse injuries and the role of exercise in the elderly. We have just completed 4 studies on overuse running injuries - diagnosis, aetiology and management. We have two projects just underway on patellar tendinitis - etiology and treatment. We have also evaluated adolescent overuse injuries. I am also involved in a new project on MRI imaging of the subacromial space in swimmers with supraspinatus tendinitis. The exercise and the elderly project is the 5th phase of a study now evaluating the effects of a one year strength study with 75 to 80 year old females on functional capacity, strength, bone density and psychological parameters.
